This specification covers an electronic variable speed drive (VSD) system (see 6.3.12) used to control 3-phase alternating current induction and synchronous machines. Intended Use: The VSD system specified herein is intended for use on either AC induction motors or AC synchronous motors (permanent magnet motors, etc.) that require speed control. By having the ability to control the speed of motors, fluid systems with motor driven pumps can be operated at peak efficiency. Additionally, the VSD will also provide starting torque control and regulate starting current.
